EM 2008 - European Soccer Championship in June 08

In June 2008 a pretty large scale event will be kicked off. The 13th European Soccer Championship ('Fußball-Europameisterschaft') will take place in Austria and in Switzerland. The Championship will take place in 8 cities, namely Bern, Basel, Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland and Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and Vienna in Austria. The European Championship takes third place in the run for most important soccer event world wide. Number one being the Olympic Games, number two the Soccer World Championship.

The final game will take place in Vienna's legendary Ernst-Happel-Stadion on June 29th, 2008! All in all 7 games will be kicked off at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion. No other arena, no other city will host more games or welcome more fans. To be prepared, Vienna has enlarged and polished its stadia and extended its tube network. The U2 now takes you directly to the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna's leisure paradise, the Prater!

Fanmile

Public viewing is all the rage. You can join your friends in a pub of your choice that broadcasts the games or check out the Vienna Fanmile! 9 video walls will be erected along the famous Ringstraße and will allow all soccer fans to get the full experience! Traffic is banded from the streets during play time and Vienna's marvellous boulevard is turned into a large fan zone!

Soccer games with cultural impact

The days preceding the finals, cultural highlights will add even more flair to this sports event. On June 27 Rolando Villazón will join his colleagues Plácido Domingo and Anna Netrebko for a concert in the Imperial park of Schoenbrunn castle. On June 28 Chinese star pianist Lang Lang will play together with the Vienna Philharmonic at the same location.

Soccer history

The 'Wien Museum', which is known for unearthing Vienna's history from an intimate and original angle, offers an overview of facts, stories and myths around Vienna's soccer clubs Rapid, Sportclub, Admira and others..

The 'Technisches Museum' puts together an interactive exhibition on soccer and its fans. You can test your abilities as a soccer player or try if you have fun when live commenting on a game!

The pub next door

Not only major cultural institutions will celebrate the spirit of the EURO 2008. Pubs will definitely turn on their television sets and allow fans to come together for watching the games. A Viennese museum, the 'Künstlerhaus’ will dedicate an interactive exhibition called „herz:rasen“ to the world of soccer.
