The dream of any long distance runner:
42 kilometers through the romantic charm of downtown Vienna
cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd. The route takes you past
major tourist attractions. The race starts outside the UN
building. The contestants cross over the Danube, get to see
the Prater and parts of Ring boulevard before the route takes
them to Schoenbrunn
castle. There, they turn back and reach Ring boulevard
for the second time. If the runners still have some breath
left, they can take in Vienna’s
marvellous opera, ‘Burgtheater’ and city hall.
They circle the Inner district and finally reach their goal:
Heldenplatz and the Imperial
castle.
Each year at the last weekend of May, this Marathon is held
on an 42km path. Starting in front of the UNO Building it
is leading it's runners throughout the City of Vienna, past
the most interesting cultural districts and buildings.
