“When
you visit the city for the first time, follow the river!”
That’s author and musician Ernst Molden's advice for future
visitors to Vienna.
If you buy his advice, you are bound to pass Vienna’s
landmark mountains: Leopoldberg and Kahlenberg.
If not, you should make every effort to go there anyways! The
hills lie in the midst of the green lungs of Vienna, the Vienna
Woods, and enchant with their romantic hiking trails and vineyards.
The view of Vienna is breathtaking.
Look for St. Stephan’s
cathedral, Schoenbrunn
castle or another landmark and take a rest in a restaurant
with a scenic view.
At Kahlenberg’s peak visitors with an interest in history
should check out a museum with a focus on the Polish king Jan
III. Sobiesky and his role in the Ottoman siege of Vienna.
The Vienna Woods ('Wienerwald') covers over 1,000 square kilometres
and is part of the northernmost parts of the Alpine chain. It
spans from the North-West of Vienna (Kahlenberg and Leopoldberg)
to the South of it (Zoological
Garden Lainz and Hermesvilla) and contributes to the exceptional
quality of life of Vienna.
